Since there seems to be a lot of food and drink-related news swimming around Shanghai, We've rounded up all you'd possibly need to know below:
- First off, Shanghai Talk has three pages of the best brunches in Shanghai. We give a thumbs up to Lynn, a thumbs down to Kommune and a general long, heavy sigh about how expensive brunch can be in this city. For 438RMB, I don't care how much food there is, I will never able to eat enough to feel like it's worth it.
- Speaking of brunch, one brunch place we have recommended in the past is now no more. Eduardo Vargas has closed his namesake restaurant, Vargas Grill (it'll turn into a placed called Madison, run by ex-Gramercy Tavern sous chef Austin Hu), which means no more lazy weekends guzzling bloody marys on beds for me. Vargas Grill's chef will be moving to sister restaurant Casa 13.
- There will be an overhaul at downstairs sister/neighbor restaurant Azul as well, though not as dramatic. Apparently, just the menu, theme and concept of the restaurant will be changing - to something Peruvian.
- In slightly happier news, Barbarossa, that sweet lil' Middle Eastern-themed lounge in the middle of People's Square has just reopened today. Renovations have allegedly left the hookahs intact. Hopefully, the ladies nights will still be there too.
- Windows is rejuggling its locations again, with Scoreboard planning a move from its current spot at Jing'an's Too back to Huaihai Lu somewhere. It sounds confusing. Morgan Short has the lowdown.
- Ever wonder about the best cupcake in town? CNNGO compared some offerings between Sweet Ever After and Oh My Goodness. Just looking at those pictures make my teeth hurt.
