Tired of wondering where your food comes from? Ever wanted to make a meal from scratch--really from scratch? If yes, come down Sunday and lend a hand (or bring your kids down for) Organic Gardening for Kids, the latest Roots & Shoots initiative.
The weekly session aims to teach kids how to grow their own vegetables and the importance of organic gardening, and it's got a real hands-on, practical approach--kids will be taken through all the steps needed to get their own garden going, and, at the end of the six-program, they'll reap the rewards of their work when they get together and use their new crop of veggies and herbs to make a real home-cooked meal.
"Roots and Shoots has long been active in helping create awareness from the grassroots level here in Shanghai," says project volunteer Emma Smaldino. "A lot of times we're asked to go into elementary schools, but this is a unique project because it's open to everyone. Kids from all over are coming down, and of course, if their parents want to take part, they're more than welcome as well!"
So, if you've just been sitting around and eating junk all weekend like some of us, start back down the path to healthy living and head down to help out this Sunday.
