If you’re like us and already feel slightly guilty at how much you will be drinking at this Friday’s Shanghaiist Happy Hour, maybe it’s time to start thinking about how to have an active summer? Whether you’re a cycling veteran or you’re just looking for something to do to these coming months, there are a number of bike trips available to see more of the beautiful countryside (or Suzhou Creek).
The first option is from Bohdisattva Mountain Bikes, a company that specializes in biking services, sales, and repairs. The next trip, which will tour the small town of Daibu and the surrounding tea plantations, is this weekend. While they recommend you reserve one week in advance, we are sure that if there is still space available, they won’t mind more people. There are more trips throughout June and July to such areas as to Chongming, Fudan (yes, near Fudan University), Moganshan, and even a secret trip (???).
The overnight trips are all priced at or around a very reasonable RMB 500, and includes transportation, a tasty sandwich from NYC Deli, and lodging at a hotel. The trips that only last a day are mostly priced at around RMB 200, and also include transportation and a sandwich. Bike rentals are available at RMB 150. The distances for most trips are around 50 KM. Though Shanghaiist doesn’t know the metric system, that does sound like a braggable distance. Another interesting option is a trailside bike mechanics course, which will offer training in making bike adjustments while on trips. This session is RMB 50 and includes a "patch kit".
The second option (more here and here) for bike trips seems to be from a community-organized group. These RMB 250 trips are day trips to Suzhou Creek. The register deadline for this week’s trip is this Friday, so get on it! Like Bohdisattva, they also promise to help with bike rentals if you don’t have one.
