is a secret writing system only for women invented in Hunan peasant women and passed on from mother to daughter over hundreds of years, perhaps starting as early as the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
HerStory (or Nüshu 女书 in Chinese) is the name of a contemporary dance story inspired by the secret women's writing system, choreographed by Helen Lai of Hong Kong's City Contemporary Dance Company. This interview with Lai was shot by Janek Zdzarski for See China before a recent performance at at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
