The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad) is seeking qualified candidates to teach inter-disciplinary courses on China’s contemporary business environment in the Language Intensive Program at the IES Abroad Beijing Center in Fall 2008 and Spring 2009.

IES Abroad Beijing Center’s Language Intensive (LI) Program is designed for students with demonstrated Chinese language proficiency. It is structured as a semester-long program with students taking two area study courses in addition to their daily language instruction. Each course meets for a total of 11 weeks. The instructor for every course is expected to teach three hours (2 X 1.5-hour sessions) in the afternoons every week during the semester.

The advertised courses are designed to provide macro-contexts (e.g. government and the regulatory environment, culture and consumer preferences, business management) for conducting business and marketing in China to American undergraduate students who major in a range of specializations that may or may not be related to business or management. The courses are conducted in Beijing.

Candidates with a doctorate (or advanced doctoral candidates) or other relevant professional degrees will be considered. Prior teaching experience is required and actual work experiences that pertain to the subject matters are highly desirable. Compensation will be a stipend commensurate with the scholar’s academic status and teaching experience.

Applicants should send a C.V. and the names and contact information for two academic references who can address the applicant’s teaching experience. A brief description of teaching methods the instructor has found to be successful with advanced undergraduate students is also helpful. All applications should be sent to John Tai, Associate Director for Academics at the IES Abroad Beijing Center, by email to IESBeijingAreaStudies@gmail.com.

The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad – www.iesabroad.org), with over 50 years of history, is one of the top U.S. study-abroad programs for American university students. The Beijing Center is located at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (北京外国语大学) and has been in operation since 1990. Since 1990, over 1,000 American university students have studied at the Beijing Center. In the Spring 2008 semester, approximately 100 American college students from all over the United States participated in the IES Abroad programs in Beijing.
